TONGE, Robert : Farmer, of Heaton, Will of, 11th August 1831.

In the name of God Amen, I Robert Tonge of Heaton in the County of Lancaster, Farmer, being in a poor state of Health but of sound mind and perfect memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.  First I order all my just debts, funeral and Testamentary Expenses to be paid by my Executors here in after named out of my Estate.  Then it is my Will and Mind that my Executors allows my Dearly beloved Wife Mary Tonge to take the Farming Stock, household furniture, the Rents arising for my Leasehold Property to her own use for the maintenance of my younger children so long as she continues my widow.  But in case she my dear Wife Mary Tonge should happen to Marry again during her life time then it is my mind and will that my Executors takes possession of all my farming stock, household furniture and sells the same for the best price or sum that can be obtained and divide the same amongst my children hereinafter named share and share alike and the remainder part of my property to be disposed of in manner and form following.

That is to say, First I give and bequeath unto my son Ralph Tonge of Heaton, Farmer, One Cottage or dwelling House situate in Can Row on Bolton Moor in the occupation of John Marsh.  Then I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Brown, Wife of John Brown of Horwich, One Cottage or dwelling House situate in Can Row, Bolton Moor in the occupation of James Blundell.  Then I give and bequeath unto my Son Robert Tonge One double cottage or dwelling House situate in Can Row, Bolton Moor in the occupation of Peter Lomax and William Madder.  Then I give and bequeath unto my Daughter, Jane Tonge, One cottage or dwelling house situate in Sharples in the occupation of Thos. Blunt and also to have one half share of a cottage or dwelling house situate in Can Row, Bolton Moor, occupied by John Crank.  Then I give and bequeath unto my Son Elijah Tonge, One cottage or dwelling House situate in Can Row, Bolton Moor in the occupation of Charles Woods, also I give and bequeath unto my Son Elijah Tonge One Room over the shop occupied by John Crank situate at Can Row, Bolton Moor.  Then I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Esther Tonge One Cottage or Dwelling House situate in Sharples aforesaid in the occupation of James Makant, and also the other remaining half share of a house in the possession of John Crank, Can Row, Bolton Moor.

Then I do order and direct that the chief Rents incumbent upon my property be divided by my Executors in proportion for the property they enjoy.  Further it is my mind and will that should any of my aforesaid mentioned Sons and Daughters should happen to Die before they come into possession of their respective shares, then, the share of him or her, so dieing, to be divided, share and share alike, amongst my surviving Sons & Daughters.  But in case any of my Sons or Daughters who is married, or shall be married, should happen to Die and not have come into possession of the before mentioned property, those children then, of him or her so dieing to have the share of their respective Fathers or Mothers.

And also it is my mind and will that my Nephew William Longworth who now lives with me have the sum of Six Pounds paid to him the day after he is Married or at the discretion of my Executors.  And lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend William Longworth of Heaton, Yeoman, and my Son Ralph Tonge of Heaton, Farmer, to be executors of this my last Will and Testament, hoping they will see my Body decently Buried at the Parish Church of Dean hereby revoking all former Wills by me made, do declare this to be my last Will and Testament.  In Witness whereof the said Testator Robert Tonge have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Eleventh day of August in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty One.

Signed, sealed, published and declared, by the said Robt. Tonge in the presence of  us who at his request, and in his presence, and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names, as witnesses attesting the execution thereof.

Ralph Farnworth & Henry Dickinson

The 16th April 1832, William Longworth & Ralph Tonge Exors in this will named were sworn in common form and they further made worth that the personal Estate and Effects of the Testator at the time of his death were under the value of £450 before me, J. Slade Surrogate.
