Radcliffe Land Tax Records 1780 - 1831

Notes

• John Street was the collector in 1789 and assessor in 1790
• John Street died in 1814, but tax continues to be paid by John Street right up until the records finish in 1831. The John Street who continues paying is possibly his son John, although the records make no mention of this.
• From the early 1790s, Richard Meadowcroft and George Meadowcroft are listed next to John Street.  The Meadowcroft's leased Wolstencrofts - the original lease had been signed 11th May 1737 by Thomas Meadowcroft.  The term of the lease was for the lives of Thomas Meadowcroft and Richard Meadowcroft.   Richard Meadowcroft, presumably Thomas' son, was recorded as being "living and hearty" in 1773

Will of John Street of Pilkingtons, Radcliffe, 1814

• Dear wife Ellen, to occupy the farm on which I now reside, which I hold under the Earl of Wilton
• Ellen allowed use of household goods, beds, bedding, cattle, farming stock, crops growing on the farm
• When Ellen dies or remarries, the estate should be equally divided between their children James, Thomas, John, William, Joesph, Ann and Alice
• James and Thomas had already received their advances "of which they have an account"
• The two youngest children should receive their shares at the age of 21
• Executors named as Ellen Street (wife), James Street (son), and John Lomax of Barrackfold, Ainsworth, Cotton Manufacturer
• Will dated 4th July 1814, died 8th July 1814, probate 10th November 1814
